I hope you read this in peace, love and happiness. It's been work work work and I finally got the time to post something new, "Contour & Highlight"
So I'm going to be writing what I know about "Contour & Highlight" below.
Here's hoping you read, understand, practise and share with others too. I first learnt about Contour & Highlight from the Late Kevyn Aucoin in his book "Making Faces" and since then it's been practise to perfection.
Things you will need;
1) Foundation
2)Concealer (1-2shades lighter than your normal concealer)
3)Concealer (1-2 shades darker than you normal concealer
4) If you don't want to use a concealer you may use Powder products or Sleek Contour kit in either Light, Medium or Dark, depending on your skin complexion.
5) Beauty blender
6) Pointed Blending brush, Fan brush or Your fingers)
7) Translucent powder to set.
So Let's Start, shall we 😉. (Going to be a long post 😩).
If you want amazing cheekbones, a thinner nose or smaller forehead, these tricks below will help you.
Step 1: Face Primer & Foundation
Mix your face primer & foundation an apply at once or apply individually using your tool of choice. "I love to use Real Techniques stippling brush"
This gives your face a base and makes your skin comfortable as you apply concealer, bronzer, blush & highlighter.
Step 2: Lighter foundation or Concealer or Powder
Select a shade of foundation or Concealer or Powder product that’s a shade or two lighter than your skin, in noticeable contrast to your normal foundation.
Use a concealer brush and apply the lighter foundation on the Center of your forehead, move down the center of your nose. Continue the line in the dip right above your lips
Apply a Little amount of concealer or powder product from the outer edge of your eye, underneath your eye and widen to cover the outer edge of your nose. Always ensure it's even on both sides. Apply on your chin and under the outer arches of your eyebrows.
Step 3: Contour
Using a Foundation or Concealer or Powder product (sleek contour kit in your complexion shade) that’s about two shades darker than your normal skin colour) Dip your concealer brush in your contouring product choice and apply to the outer edges of your chin, between the highlighted areas of your nose and over eyelids Lastly the outer edges of each side of your forehead.
For cheeks, contour by starting at the cheekbone around the middle of your eye and following your cheekbone towards your ear.
Step 4: Highlight
A powder highlighter will allow you to accentuate any features you want to make POP-out, make use of a Translucent powder to Highlight and finish off with your normal powder just under your cheekbone contour, but you can also highlight your forehead, nose bridge.
The approach is to highlight on the inner sections of your face, such as under your eyes, the center of the nose and forehead, middle of the chin and under your eyebrows. These are typically darker areas that make your face puffy or dull, By highlighting, You are drawing attention to the areas of your face you want noticed. simply put, your face looks brighter & healthier.
Step 5: Step Back from your Mirror and observe your face.
Do you see any Harsh lines or Do you need to blend, blend more? Because no one is meant to see the miracle you have done to brighten your face & not seeing traces of your C&H, so Stepping back from your mirror will help you notice if it's done right or you need to blend more with your beauty blender sponge, This makes the difference between a patch-patch makeup and a Nicely blended Makeup.
Highlighting and contouring helps to bring out your most noticeable features while erasing imperfections.
Let's say you have dark circles or puffiness under your eye you can draw attention to your eyes by highlighting and If you think your nose is too slim, highlighting the center and each sides of your nose helps to widen while Highlighting the center of your nose and contouring each side helps to make your nose slimmer. contouring the outer edge slightly gives your now-wider nose more definition.
Sorry for the Long post but I hope to put up a video on Contouring and Highlighting for a better understanding as soon as I'm done learning my new camera basics. ;)
